“The clients approached us to design and construct a custom home. They requested logs as the primary construction material and wanted a super energy efficient home. The design is a very traditional southern plan extrapolated somewhat with very traditional material usage. Containing 3000 sq.ft. of living space with two-thirds of the space on the entry level. The entry level finish floor is tinted concrete slab with hydronic heat and the exterior walls are 6×8 logs. A semi-circle stair constructed of walnut and oak leads upstairs to heart pine floors; An atrium space, a spare bedroom/bath, with study areas overlooking the lap pool on the west and the screen porch on the east. The ceilings are fir T&G bead-board. The wainscoting is recycled barn wood. The main support beam for the upper level is american sweet gum and was harvested from the property. We custom built the exterior doors and the interior doors are recycled heart pine doors. The HVAC systems are connected to a closed loop ground source heat pump that provides heating for the floors, heating for the air handlers, and cooling for all levels.”
