“The client had purchased a piece of property located on a lake. A renovated tobacco barn and shed were the living quarters. The design of the addition played off the tobacco barn typology. The dimensions were taken from a five-room barn and we worked to design a master suite, guest suite, laundry, screen room, and balcony within this footprint. We pushed and pulled the plan to get the outdoor space and to make the physical connections to the existing buildings. The addition is covered in cypress T&G and metal siding along with custom canopies over exposed windows. On the interior, we recycled heart pine T&G for the upper lever floors and stairs. The lower level floor is a stained concrete slab with hydronic heat. The master bath has a huge custom tile shower and the master bedroom opens to a deck overlooking the lake.”
